Not sure that the Connetable Talbot necessarily needs to be drunk soon. I picked up a bottle from the legendary 1982 vintage in Paris last year (for a paltry 20ish euros) and it was stunning - outstanding - superlatives fail me. Seems it can wear its age very well given a strong vintage like the 82, 2000, or 2005. I welcome your opinion.

Connetable - a smashing drop. Our Lord Tom Stevenson thinks it better than the cru class wine. I dunno 'cause I've never had it. Another second worth hunting out is the second of Ch. Ducru-Beaucaillou, in St. Julien. Its called La Croix - should be around the same price as Connetable.

Hello Nicky! Are you well?

You're right, lots of people need convincing about the wines of Bordeaux. Think of me as the convincing man.

Let's be honest though, there are a lot of very poor wines produced in this part of France. In fact, there is far too much wine made here (how does 800 million bottles a year grab you?), and thousands of acres of vines should really be ripped up and put to better use than churning out rough, thin wines that put people off. But that's a debate for another day.

I'm really trying to get to know the Left Bank first, but will soon be turning my attention to St-Emilion and the rest of the Right Bank so keep reading. I did have a Pomerol over the weekend, which is nextdoor to St-Emilion, so I'm getting closer.

Wow, a blog about wine? I love it. A blog about red wine in Bordeaux region? I need convincing. And this is because on my recent camper van journey through the Bordeaux region in France (when you so kindly drew a map to help me) I thought that most of the wines from Bordeaux seemed really thin and watery. What the f*&*%$k? I clearly know nothing. I think I may have incorrect opinions as I was quite drunk for most of our travelling (on red wine from the Bordeaux region. Funny that.) and seemed quite happy to finish all my stock on route... so can it be that bad...???? Let me know what your thoughts are and I'll be waiting in eager anticipation to read about red wine from St Emilion (my personal favourite...)
